Logan’s Here!

I realized that I never posted anything on this (my primary) blog about the arrival of our son, Logan Christopher. He made his way into this world at 12:32pm on Tuesday, July 8, 2008. Chris’ 33rd Birthday

Not knowing what Logan had in mind, we didn't dare make any grand plans for Chris' birthday this year (since it was just 2 days before Logan's due date). It ended up being a very relaxing day of breakfast at Market Street, at home movie watching, dinner with newlyweds Jim & Angie, and then our neighbors joining us for cake and Guitar Hero.

The one thing I did do this year was bake Chris' cake. I'm pretty sure that it upset Kathy that I didn't ask her to do it both since she's our resident cake expert and because of the supposed effort I might have had to expend to do it. But since I did so little else for his birthday, I really wanted to do this for him. (Thanks for caring so much, Kathy!) But, truly, this isn't a terribly complicated cake, and it's not one that I worry too much about presentation (obviously!). It's called a Chocolate Candy Bar Cake. (If you've never discovered allrecipes.com, you're totally missing out!) I used Heath bits since that's Chris' favorite, but I've also crushed up Twix in the past (for Jim). The chocolate syrup drizzle is my own little touch. When I did the Twix cake, I also used caramel syrup. Anyway - it ain't pretty, but it tastes awesome!

A Couple of Cards

I've spent a little time in my studio the last couple of days. It's a challenge to stamp anything worth looking at with my right hand not completely cooperating, but I've been giving it a college try to finish a couple of cards for Chris. Unfortunately, a project for Jim & Angie's wedding had to be put on hold. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish that by the end of the month. (Sorry Girl!)

Anyway … this is Chris' birthday card:

I'm pretty tickled with the way it turned out. And, this is a card I wanted to have ready for him right after Logan is born to go with the gift I got him.

Yes, I know there is a great debate about new parents exchanging gifts to celebrate the birth of children. My basis for this gift is really a thank you for how amazing he's been during the entire pregnancy. In 9 months, there hasn't been a single time when he has complained when I said I was too tired to <fill in the blank with any number of activates or household chores>. Without complaint, he took up all of my critter related duties (i.e., cat box duty & pooper scooper duty in the backyard). When my belly got so far in the way of reaching the sink comfortable, he took up a lot of the kitchen clean up and a good amount of the cooking. He definitely deserves an acknowledgement of what an incredible guy he's been, and even more than that, I needed to express to him how so very blessed Logan and I are to have him as our husband & father.

(And, no, I'm not worried about giving away any surprises. He doesn't read my blog. Go figure.)
