The little man's one month check up went really well. He's up to 10 lbs 9.7 oz & 22", and his head is 15.5". He's hovering around 70% on the growth charts which is a far cry from the 19% he was just 2 ½ weeks ago (at 7 lbs 11 oz). The pediatrician was quite happy with his almost 3 lb weight gain. Everything else checked out with only one notable abnormality. She detected a very slight heart murmur. It's nothing to get worried about at this point. Apparently, it's a fairly common thing that they usually grow out of. She gave us a few things to watch for that would indicate a bigger problem, and we'll keep an ear on it over his next checkups. Interesting note – Chris had a heart murmur almost all the way through college. Now, no one can find it. Go figure why/how these things happen or clear up.
Developmentally, he's right where he should be. He's making movements to hold his head up, and we're seeing those occasional random smiles. He's tracking us with his eyes and is responding to loud noises. All good things. Soon, we'll probably start to see social smiles and more alert time during the day. Luckily, he seems to have night & day correct. On a good night, he'll actually sleep for a good 3-4 hour stretch. In the next few weeks, he'll probably start to extend that to 4-5 or maybe even 6 hours! Woo Hoo!
He was remarkably calm during the entire visit - right up to the point that they gave him his Hep B shot which he obviously didn't appreciate. But, after a couple minutes of cuddling, he calmed down. I was very amused with the adorable, blue camo band aid he got. It seemed picture worthy.
So, despite such a rocky start, he's become a happy, healthy baby. Halleluiah!
Audrey, This is my first comment ever on a blog. Am I doin' it right? Is there a right and a wrong way? Enough of that...
Loved Logan's birth announcement received by snail mail. Been meaning to visit here. After 20 minutes of reading I must STOP! Your little man is adorable. Enjoy. I know it's hard to enjoy those short nights or fussy days or poopy diapers! They do balance out with a smile, the grap of a hand, and blisful sleep. All in the circle of life. Keep bloggin' and I'll be back. All the best, Wendy
