It doesn’t seem possible but Logan will be 7 months old in less than a week and yet again, I’m seriously late in posting his 6 month milestone update. At least this time I’m getting it done before the month is up!
Here are his 6-7 month highlights:
- He’s basically still a big chunk o’ baby - 21 lbs 4.8 oz (94% percentile), 27” long (69% percentile), 18” head circumference (92% percentile).
- He’s very steady sitting on the floor all by himself now. He only falls over when he starts to get tired. Most of the time, he’ rather be on the floor surrounded by his toys than almost anywhere else.
- He’s not quite crawling yet, but we think he’s really close. The frustration on his face at not being mobile is so obvious and a little heart breaking.
- He’s a really good eater. He hasn’t rejected any of the pureed goo that we’ve offered him. We’ve made our way through green beans, peas, squash, sweet potatoes, & pears with very little trouble. He’s gotten the hang of opening his mouth long enough to give us a chance to get the spoon in. The funniest part is the faces he makes when he gets the taste of a new food. He never quite knows what to make of it.
- He’s finally sleeping in his crib. I know that might not sound like a big deal, but for various reasons he’d been sleeping in his swing. We knew this needed to stop for any number of reasons, but with the holiday’s we just hadn’t had the time to spend a weekend letting him get acclimated to sleeping in his crib. So, the first weekend in January we finally bit the bullet and moved him to his crib, and he made the transition with a minimum of fuss. Hallelujah!
- We’re (finally) not having to rock him to sleep. Again, we knew we needed to get out of this habit, but it was another transition that we needed to allow some time for. I read a post on DrGreene.com that talked about this exact problem, and we were stunned that it was right on the money except that he only fussed for about 10 minutes the first time we tried it. We are really close to being able to lay him down and walk away completely. Now the only obstacle to easy baby sleep is the fact that we still wrap his arms up in a semi-swaddle style. We’ve tried to let that go, and he won’t stay asleep for more than about 30-45 minutes. Wish us luck!
The other major “milestone” of sorts is that Logan has spent his first week in a real day care. Up until last week, he was literally right next door. We were incredibly fortunate to be able to share a nanny with our neighbor. Logan was with another baby about 6 weeks older than him, a toddler about a year older than him, & a 4 year old. It was really a great situation – right up until our nanny’s daughter got really sick and she just wasn’t able to be here consistently. It broke our hearts to have to make the transition. Our nanny was incredibly great with Logan, and we never intended for him to have to spend a single day in day care. But, the challenge is that both my neighbor and I are Realtors. It provides a great deal of flexibility, but it is straight commission – when we don’t work, we don’t get paid. So, not having consistent child care just isn’t an option for us. The good news is that he has adjusted really quickly. His primary care giver there, Miss Billy, says that he was as settled in at the end of his first week as most kiddos who had been there 2-3 weeks. And, he's really gotten attached to Miss Billy, too. His face lights up when he sees her which
That’s about it for now - as if that’s not enough! We’re looking forward to Logan’s 1st Valentine’s Day now. The only question is what incredibly embarrassing photos am I going to dream up to take of the little guy???
