This is my peanut butter. I love my peanut butter. I love making little halfie PB&Js with my peanut butter. I love making banana & peanut butter smoothies with my peanut butter. But, alas, my peanut butter is BAD. Very, very bad. So, I threw away my peanut butter this weekend. May my peanut butter rest in peace.
For me, throwing away my peanut butter was a pretty significant step in the direction of Eating Clean. I've learned that while peanut butter is a great source of protein almost every bit of the fat in it is from hydrogenated oils (aka trans fat) which are very, very bad for you. To be honest, I've know this for a while, but I really LOVED by peanut butter.
That triggered a different attitude as Chris and I spent a very large part of our day yesterday (after Cycle 90 with Monica in the AM) preparing our menu for the week and grocery shopping. This isn't usually such a monumental task, but we decided to start working in as much of the Eating Clean methodology as we could. We labored over our menu, hunted down things like flaxseed, bee pollen, & wheat germ, and read ingredient labels like we never have before. BTW, if you haven't don't thoroughly read ingredient lists before, DO IT. It is truly frightening that so many of the things in our food are completely UNIDENTIFIABLE. If something can sit on a shelf for a long period of time without going bad (think Twinkie), then you should probably RUN AWAY!
Don't get me wrong ... We're by no means 100%. That's a pretty much change over to make in one weekend, but we're on our way. And I feel so good about it.
